Experimental analysis of the wake behind a small wind-turbine model in yaw

Abstract In this work we study the wake of a yawed wind-turbine model immersed in an atmospheric boundary layer (ABL). The ABL is replicated wind tunnel by means barrier-spires and distributed roughness configuration representative rural terrain. We quantify properties horizontal plane at hub height compare predictions available models to our data for different yaw angles. It found that based on lifting-line theory performs best predicting velocity deficit without need tuning parameters current setup. However, deflection slightly underestimated, most notably transition between near far wake. Furthermore, comparison with turbine uniform incoming flow highlights enhanced downward which results from its interaction ABL.
